The inaugural ceremony of the University of Emergency Management was recently held in Langfang, Hebei Province. Zhang Guoqing, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the event and delivered a speech.
Zhang Guoqing emphasized that the establishment of the University of Emergency Management is a major decision made by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core. This decision aims to strengthen the training of emergency management personnel and the development of related disciplines, and promote the modernization of the emergency management system and capacity. It is also an important measure to implement the strategy of reinvigorating the country through education, science and technology, and talent. The University of Emergency Management should seize the opportunity, ride the momentum of development, and make solid strides towards building a world-class, high-level applied research university with distinctive features. The University must firmly establish the concept of "running the university with political guidance" and always embed the Party's leadership into all aspects and the entire process of university governance. It should lay a solid foundation for talent and intellectual support to safeguard people's lives and property safety and promote the reform and development of emergency management. The university should highlight its distinctive school-running orientation, address the practical needs arising from various disasters and major emergencies, conduct in-depth segmented research covering the entire chain, and build discipline clusters and professional clusters serving areas such as work safety management, natural disaster prevention and control, and emergency rescue. It is necessary for the University to develop more "emergency +" training models, emphasize practical training, and cultivate more interdisciplinary talents who are familiar with industries, professional in skills, and proficient in safety and emergency management. The university should strengthen the integration of science and education, focus on key issues in major disaster and accident risk prevention and emergency response, intensify basic theoretical research, accelerate the tackling of core key technologies and key common technologies, and promote the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent.
Responsible comrades from relevant central and state organs, local governments, and universities, as well as representatives of teachers and students, attended the ceremony.
