Subang, West Java. A gas well operated by Pertamina EP in Kampung Babakan Cidahu, Cidahu Village, Pagaden Barat District, Subang, exploded early Tuesday morning, sparking panic among nearby residents and sending flames towering into the sky.
The well, known as SP Subang, is one of the largest gas-producing sites in West Java and a major contributor to domestic gas supply in the region. According to eyewitness accounts, a burst of liquid suspected to be leaking gas was seen moments before the explosion. A loud blast followed, accompanied by intense flames and a series of secondary explosions.
Residents described hearing a low rumble, which some mistook for an approaching airplane, before the explosion occurred around 4:20 a.m.
"There was a loud rumble, like a plane preparing to land, and three minutes later a loud explosion occurred," a local resident said. "When I went outside, I saw a red glow. I assumed there had been an explosion at the Pertamina site."
