Please share your expectations and ideas in view of bilateral cooperation on disaster control and emergency management between Mozambique and China. We’d like to share your comments on BRIDRREM as well.
Ambassador:
Indeed, Mozambique and China have been cooperating in this area for a long time. As you know, China sent a huge and expressive team to Mozambique when we were hit by Cyclone Kenneth in 2019, which means that we are always together when there are problems in Mozambique. Due to its geographical conditions, Mozambique is prone to cyclones, droughts, and flooding, even now at the moment we are talking.
Mozambique is struggling with floods. Yes, we have floods in southern part of the capital and most of the places of the Maputo province are filled with water. 12 persons had lost their lives and more than 40,000 people are suffering from rains. I'm not talking about the destruction of things and even the bridges by the floods we are facing at the moment, flood to Mozambique is always a regular topic because climate change is becoming more and more severe, areas with no floods in the past start to have water troubles.
Now, we are facing many problems, such as loss of land. We are looking for international community and our friends like China to cooperate with us and strengthen our capacity in responding to disasters in all areas. So we are also looking forward to working with China for the wallace wallet system management and mobilizing funds for disaster relieves, as well as for building infrastructures to better confront disasters and the kind of influence afterwards.
China is resilient for disasters. So we have been together and the expectation to strengthen our relationship with China is really high.
