On July 30, 2024, Wang Xiangxi, Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) of China, met with Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Assistant Secretary of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and his delegation in Beijing.
Wang Xiangxi said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the cooperation with GCC. President Xi Jinping attended the first China-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit and jointly issued a joint statement, opening up new prospects for China-GCC cooperation. All GCC country members have signed cooperation documents with China on jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, laying a solid foundation for deepening cooperation on emergency management between China and GCC.
Since our meeting last year, China has taken reinforcing foundation and improving quality as the main theme of emergency management, paying more attention to prevention and systematic roles, emergency preparedness and grassroots foundation, so as to continuously promote the high-quality development of emergency management in the country. We hope both of us would take this meeting as an opportunity to continue to make new contributions to the steady and long-term cooperation on emergency management between China and GCC.
Xu Jia’ai, Vice Minister of MEM attended the meeting and held talks with the Amimi delegation to intensify cooperation on emergency management, saying that China is willing to strengthen cooperation with GCC in terms of establishing cooperation framework, promoting high-level visits, deepening international exchanges, and implementing practical projects. MEM is willing to work out a list of cooperation with GCC and promote to carry out one by one so that can ensure tangible results.
Amimi introduced the important role GCC played in maintaining the unity and security of the Gulf and the Middle East region, reviewed the practical cooperation between China and GCC in the field of emergency management, and expressed his willingness to learn from China's experience. He is looking forward to reaching consensus with China on the memorandum of understanding on cooperation as soon as possible and open a new chapter for the follow-up cooperation.
During their stay in China, the delegation also visited the State Emergency Command Headquarters and made field visits to China National Training Base for Urban Search and Rescue.
